Looking for a Hamptons summer rental? Read this.

Beach house with a pool in the Hamptons

As we approach the Fourth of July holiday, you can count on local residents fleeing the city for a long weekend getaway. Whether it's upstate New York, the Jersey Shore or the East End, some New Yorkers either have a second home or summer rental within driving distance that they look forward to for some R&R. While this sounds like the ideal situation, I must point out that there are some New Yorkers who choose to stay in the city to enjoy easy access to some of the restaurants and attractions that are typically hard to get into without 2-3 months advance reservations.

However, if you’re someone looking to enjoy some time on the beach and access to some of the freshest seafood and produce, the Hamptons is the destination for you. The Hamptons, for those not familiar, is made up of hamlets and townships, each having their own character, shops and things to do. There are a plethora of social activities to enjoy or you can simply just enjoy time on the beach or at the pool—whatever floats your boat, pun intended.

Because buying a second home isn’t an option for most, summer rentals and shares are very popular with New Yorkers who are trying to stay within budget or only looking for a short-term fix. Brown Harris Stevens has a strong presence out east with a wide range of listings at various price points. We’ve curated a selection of properties that rent out for the month for you to peruse should you be interested or just want to get a sense for what is available at what cost. You will also find a link with some suggested activities to do while there, even if you’re just getting away for the weekend.

If you’ve been considering renting in the Hamptons, you may be interested to know that rental prices have dropped on average between 15-25 percent due to high inventory. The length of stays has also shortened because of affordability reasons, which has also had an impact on rental prices. Also keep in mind, everything is negotiable. If you’re interested in renting or buying, please reach out. I would be more than happy to pull a list together for you that fits within your budget and timeframe.

However you choose to spend the long holiday weekend, I wish each of you a safe and happy Independence Day!
